Newcastle United face a major task on hand to secure the future of Rafael Benitez, who has seen suitors lining-up following his excellent performances in the club’s return to the Premier League this season.
The Magpies are desperate for their experienced manager to remain on board for next season, where Newcastle will hope to consolidate their position as a top-flight side, but know they will have to provide Benitez with assurances.
However, the Spanish boss has provided the club with a boost as he’s stated that his position is clear and his preference is to remain at St. James’ Park, putting the ball in the court of the board. Speaking to the BBC’s Match of the Day: The Premier League Show, he said:
“I have one year left on my contract and we are already talking – and then we will see where we are. My position is clear and simple: I am happy here, so hopefully we can do everything that we have to do to be sure that the relationship, the strength of the team and the club is enough to compete and maybe achieve what we want to achieve.”
