Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea centre-forward Tammy Abraham and the club should press ahead with a summer swoop.

News outlet TEAMtalk reports that manager Rafael Benitez wants to sign the 20-year-old on loan next season from the Blues, while they have also made contact about taking his teammate Kenedy too from Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that Premier League giants Chelsea are willing to sanction his temporary exit and that the Magpies were keen on securing a deal for him last summer.

Newcastle must ensure they don’t miss out on him this time around and bring him to St James’ Park for next season on loan, which would be a masterclass from Benitez to land a highly-rated youngster.

The England Under-21 international has spent this campaign at Swansea City, scoring eight goals and supplying five assists in 38 games.

He is a 6ft 3in colossus centre-forward that has a great physical presence and could lead the line brilliantly well at Newcastle.

Abraham, 20, impressed on loan with Bristol City in the 2015/16 campaign in the Championship and showed enough with Swansea to prove he is top-class.

Newcastle could definitely benefit from a years service of the striker, while a double swoop for Kenedy too would be ideal for Benitez.

Newcastle clearly have to solve their problems in attack ahead of next year and Abraham’s potential arrival should spell the end for Joselu.

The 28-year-old has been a huge flop of the 2017/18 season and his return of just four goals hasn’t been good enough, especially given the fact that he offers very little off the ball.
