Newcastle United can begin their preparations for another season in the Premier League, as Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal has seen them surpass their pre-season target of 40 points and all but secure their top-flight status.
Rafael Benitez faces a difficult task to rejuvenate his side though, with focus needing to be orientated around an attack that has struggled for consistency this season, and a big decision needs to be made on Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Excelling on-loan with Fulham, Mitrovic has netted ten goals in 14 appearances for the promotion chasing side and interest in the 23-year-old is heating up.
CalcioMercato name West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace as the three Premier League side’s chasing a deal for the World Cup ace this summer, with Mitrovic leaving the door open for a transfer as he eyes regular football.
Given that Mitrovic has scored double the amount of goals that top-scorers Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle have netted all season, there’s certainly a case for Newcastle to hand the striker his chance back on Tyneside- especially as selling to a top-flight rival could come back to haunt Benitez’s side.
