Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has been able to cast one eye towards the summer transfer market after the side’s recent upturn in form, as a four-match winning streak has seen the Magpies surpass their pre-season 40-point target.

One of Benitez’s priorities in the close-season will be to improve his options in attack, with joint top-scorers Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle having just five goals apiece this year, and preparations are underway.

Turkish outlet Takvim claim Newcastle are sending scouts to watch this weekend’s fierce derby between Galatasaray and Besiktas, as they keep tabs on the services of Cape Verde international Garry Rodrigues.

The 27-year-old, also linked with West Ham and Everton, has excelled for Galatasaray this season with a return of seven goals and eight assists in the league, with the Turkish side ready for a sale should they receive a suitable price.

Additionally, it’s stated that Newcastle’s interest is clear as two bids, worth €6m and €8m, have already been rejected by the Turkish side, whilst it’s also been stated that West Ham had an approach worth €10m rejected in January.
