Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has a number of crucial decisions to make this summer, including deciding what to do with the host of players who have spent time away from the club on-loan.
The Magpies have sent the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Matz Sels on-loan this year, to Fulham and Anderlecht respectively, and the latter has stated he’s prepared to fight for a second-chance at St. James’ Park.
Sels, signed two years ago, left the club last summer after mixed performances in Newcastle’s promotion-winning campaign, has stated he’s not closed the chapter on Newcastle and is awaiting to hear whether he’s in Benitez’s plans.
Quoted by The Shields Gazette, the stopper said:
“I want to know if the club wants to keep me. But I have not closed the chapter on Newcastle. I remain very grateful to Rafa Benitez for hiring me.”
With Newcastle chasing a permanent deal for current loanee Martin Dubravka, it seems unlikely that they’ll have a place in the squad for Sels next season.
