Newcastle United experienced their second 1-0 loss in a row on Saturday, losing to relegation-threatened West Brom, and one incident in the game could see them without an experienced figure for the remainder of the season.

On-loan Leicester City striker Islam Slimani kicked out at Craig Dawson during the second-half at the Hawthorns, an incident that was missed by the referee, and the Algeria international now risks being issued a three-match suspension.

Slimani has struggled with injury problems since moving to Tyneside in January and now risks missing the chance to earn a permanent move to St. James’ Park, after an incident that Newcastle legend Alan Shearer branded ‘stupid’.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Shearer said:

“He will get a three-match ban, I have no doubt about it. It’s stupid. You’ve hardly even played for Newcastle and that’s probably the last time he will play for Newcastle. It’s just daft, stupid.”

If banned, Slimani will miss Newcastle’s final games of the season against Watford, Tottenham and Chelsea.
