Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is keen to strengthen his squad in a number of areas this summer, including in the attacking third where the Magpies have struggled to find consistency.

Recent links have attributed the Tyneside giants with an interest in Gent’s Nigerian winger Moses Simon, who The Sun state is valued at £13m by the Belgian side, but they add that Newcastle could face immense competition in the market.

Despite seeing the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane tear the Premier League apart this summer, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to improve the depth in his forward lines and the Reds are ready to beat their former boss Benitez in the charge for the 22-year-old.

Further interest in the market comes from Brighton, who are also keen to bolster their squad ahead of next season, and the rising interest could lead to a bidding war, which would prove to be problematic for Benitez due to his limited transfer funds.

Simon was scouted by Newcastle on international duty against Serbia last week, Belgian outlet HLN have claimed.
