Newcastle United are on the verge of securing their Premier League status for another season after a four-match winning streak, including Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal, saw the Magpies surpass their pre-season 40-point target.

Rafael Benitez has earned widespread praise following his performances at St. James’ Park, despite working on a shoestring budget, which has led to plenty of speculation surrounding his future- including an array of pundits stating he’d be ideal for Arsenal after the Magpies overcame the Gunners.

Newcastle are desperate to keep the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss on Tyneside but have a rather incredible back-up plan if Benitez does leave, as they’ll seek to replace him with another Champions League winning boss.

Spanish outletĀ Don BalonĀ claims Newcastle have set their sights on former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, who has been out of football since leaving the Catalan giants last summer, although they’ll face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

Enrique’s services are highly sought after, with it claimed he’s already rejected an approach from Paris Saint-Germain, and he’d certainly be a huge coup for the Magpies.
