Newcastle United have turned a corner in recent months, significantly boosting their hopes of retaining their Premier League status, and part of the reason for the upturn in form has been the stellar performances from Martin Dubravka.

Signed on-loan from Sparta Prague in January, Dubravka caught the eye with a remarkable performance on his debut against Manchester United, where the Magpies secured a famous win, and the Slovakian international hasn’t looked back since.

Now, with the Premier League season rapidly approaching it’s conclusion, the 29-year-old stopper has spoken about his desire to make a move to St. James’ Park permanent, with Newcastle holding the opportunity to make that a reality in the summer.

Quoted by Sky SportsDubravka said:

“I want to stay here after the summer, so I need to be focused, but I don’t think this is the time to speak about it.”

“I’ve enjoyed every game we’ve played. I knew when I came here that we were not in the best situation, but Newcastle’s a huge club with a great history and deserves to stay in the league.”

“Since I signed a loan deal here, we’ve worked hard in training trying to take this attitude on the training ground on to the pitch in games. Everybody fights for it. It was important that we bring this energy from the training ground.”

Newcastle’s victory over Huddersfield last weekend, where Dubravka secured another clean sheet, has given the Magpies a seven-point cushion over the relegation zone.
