Newcastle United are seeking attacking improvements heading into the summer transfer window and speculation has suggested a reunion for Rafael Benitez and a former striker of his could be on the cards.
Atletico Madrid icon Fernando Torres recently confirmed that he would be leaving the Spanish capital for the second time this summer, sparking rumours that Benitez could look to bring his compatriot to St. James’ Park on a free transfer.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Torres left the door open for a return to the Premier League but also suggested he could consider a move away from Europe.
“I have not made the decision. I will say it as I have said: that I leave Atletico. I will not continue in Spain. Europe? I don’t know. One has an idea that can then change.”
Clubs within America’s MLS and some from China have also been attributed with an interest in the World Cup winner.
