Newcastle United face an increasingly tough test to retain the services of fan-favourite manager Rafael Benitez, as another Premier League side are reported to have expressed an interest in the experienced Spaniard.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss has already been linked with a move to Arsenal to succeed Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium but another possibility has arisen, with The Daily Star stating Leicester City are keen.

Claude Peul’s side fell to a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Saturday, ending their chances of playing European football next season, and Benitez has been identified as the ideal candidate to get the Foxes back fighting near the summit of the Premier League.

Benitez is happy at Newcastle but is seeking assurances ahead of the summer window, as he intends to rejuvenate his squad, and any failure to commit finances could lead the Spaniard to walk with just 12 months remaining on his current deal.
