Newcastle United have valiantly surpassed the 40-point mark in the Premier League this season, with a run of four consecutive victories all but confirming the club’s top-flight status for another season.
A remarkable upturn in form since the January window has helped Newcastle propel themselves from 18th in the table to a position within the top-half, securing memorable victories against Manchester United and Arsenal along the way.
That rise has been attributed to the guidance of Rafael Benitez, who has led the side excellently in recent years, and Jamaal Lascelles, who the Spaniard appointed as his captain, has heaped praise on the experienced boss.
Speaking to The Mirror ahead of Sunday’s win over Arsenal, the England hopeful said:
“Rafa Benitez is always calm even when we are losing at St James’ Park and it’s a bit hectic. You might see him sweating on the sidelines but inside I can guarantee he will be the calmest man in the stadium.”
“You might see him sweating on the sidelines but inside I can guarantee he will be the calmest man in the stadium. He’s been there in these tense situations so many times before. He’s managed in big European finals in the Champions League and Europa League, so he knows what he’s doing. He is definitely, definitely a special manager.”
Having led the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Napoli, managing Newcastle is certainly an entirely different task and the Magpies face a challenge to retain his services this summer.
