Newcastle United have impressed in the Premier League this season, surpassing expectations, but the same unfortunately cannot be said for the club’s development side.

The Magpies U23 side sit second-bottom of their league this season and Rafael Benitez has not seen any youngsters push for a first-team spot this season, which is something that the Spaniard wants to rectify in the close season.

The Chronicle identifies that many of the more talented members below the first-team, like Adam Armstrong and Ivan Toney, have been loaned away from the club this season and have enjoyed successful times in their spells elsewhere.

For those who have remained with the U23 ranks, Newcastle will release many of their underperforming U23 squad this season, while the likes of Mo Sangare, Nathan Harker, and Tyrique Bartlett are set to be promoted from the U18’s side.

That’s due to Benitez’s frustration on the matter and significant changes, both in and out, are to be expected to occur at St. James’ Park this summer.
