Newcastle United are one of a number of Premier League sides put on alert by news that an England international is eyeing a transfer this summer.

The Sun names Rafael Benitez’s side alongside Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton as eyeing a move for Southampton ace Ryan Bertrand, who is ready to leave the club regardless of whether the Saints avoid relegation.

Sat third-bottom in the table, time is running out for Southampton to retain their spot in the Premier League and, whilst Bertrand will give his all in the battle to avoid the drop and next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea, the 28-year-old will seek a new challenge this summer.

His future could be directly correlated with that of England compatriot Danny Rose, who is being eyed by Manchester United, as it’s suggested the Red Devils will move for Bertrand if that swoop doesn’t materialise, whilst the former Chelsea man is named as a replacement for Rose at Spurs should a deal go ahead.

Everton, meanwhile, seek Bertrand to bolster their defensive line and want to replace veteran Leighton Baines for the long-term, whilst a move to Newcastle would represent a significant coup for Rafael Benitez’s side.
