Newcastle United face a major restructure behind the scenes this season, with the Magpies set to completely overhaul their youth ranks after a disappointing campaign for the U23 side.

With just a few games remaining this season, Newcastle have already informed the likes of Curtis Good, Stuart Findlay, Mackenzie Heaney, Macaulay Gillesphey, Tom Heardman, and Kyle Cameron that their contracts would not be renewed- leaving a host of youngsters searching for a new home.

That presents them all with a tough challenge but Newcastle coach Ben Dawson is confident they’ll swiftly find a new club, praising the determination of the soon to be free agents in comments made to Chronicle Live:

“They have not let it affect them and said: ‘I’m going to get a career elsewhere’. They have really pushed on. They have kept their standards high in training and out on the pitch. You look at some of the performances of the lads who are leaving you wouldn’t say they had chucked the towel in, they have given everything.”

“We have never faulted the effort of the lads. They have worked hard every day in training. That’s the one thing that they can control, they can give maximum effort every day in every game and they do that. Sometimes a little bit of quality lets them down or a decision elsewhere or the opposition are too good for you. But the effort has been terrific all season in that dressing room.”

Newcastle’s second-string side were recently beaten 1-0 by Porto’s B team in the semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup.
