Newcastle United have achieved their pre-season target of reaching 40-points in the Premier League and the club have all but secured their top-flight status for another campaign.
The next challenge for the Magpies is cementing the future of manager Rafael Benitez, who’s reported to have a worryingly low release-clause in his contract at St. James’ Park, but the Spaniard has provided a boost in his latest comments.
Benitez has refused to be dragged into speculation whilst he focuses on achieving his goals with Newcastle but, with the targets set to be achieved, he’s told Chronicle Live he will extend if the deal on the table is right.
“We will see. Obviously, it is too early because we have just finished but we have plenty of time to talk about ideas for the future. As I have said before, if everything is right, it is a good opportunity but everything has to be right.”
Newcastle’s future remains uncertain due to ongoing takeover speculation and Benitez will demand some stability this summer.
