Newcastle have excelled in their return to the Premier League this season, with the guidance of Rafael Benitez being crucial for the club’s tremendous upturn in form since the January window.

The Spaniard has guided his side from 18th to a spot in the top-half of the table, raising optimism ahead of a crucial summer transfer window, but his performances have certainly not gone unnoticed by some of Europe’s elite.

Following Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal, plenty of speculation rose to suggest Benitez would be the ideal successor to Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium- and Newcastle ace Ayoze Perez has admitted he wouldn’t be surprised in the Gunners were keen on his services.

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, the in-form talent said:

“It’s normal. We all know Rafa. The calibre of teams he has managed in England, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Arsenal are big club in England and Rafa is a great coach. He has already been on the benches of teams of their calibre. But for me I want him to stay at Newcastle.”

“We have been very happy under him as the team have improved a lot since his arrival.”

Perez has hit form with a run of three goals in his last three matches, putting him joint-top of Newcastle’s scoring charts this season alongside Dwight Gayle.
