Newcastle are poised to rival two Premier League clubs for the signature of Burnley’s £20 million-rated winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

Despite already having four competent Premier League wingers on the books at St James’ Park – two of whom scored in the 3-0 victory over Southampton on Satursay -, it seems Rafa Benitez is keen to freshen up his wide options this summer.

The United boss is reportedly keen to tie up a permanent deal for Kenedy following an impressive loan spell so far, whilst there has been constant speculation surrounding Benitez’s interest in Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues.

But it has since emerged that Gudmundsson is now on Benitez’s radar, with TEAMtalk reporting that Newcastle are prepared to battle Leicester and Southampton for the talented Iceland international.

The 27-year-old has started every league game for the Clarets since October, playing a key role in helping as Sean Dyche’s side rise up to seventh in the table.

Gudmundsson only has a year left on his current contract at Turf Moor, but Burnley are expected to activate a renewal clause and off a new deal to the former Charlton man to ward off potential suitors.

Should he decide to leave, it’s understood that Burnley will only sell for a fee in the region of £20m – which would be a club record for Newcastle.
