Newcastle must fork out £15 million if they are to sign loan star Kenedy from Chelsea in a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The Brazil under-23 international scored twice and delivered another impressive performance in the 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday to underscore why Rafa Benitez pursued him so vigorously last summer and in the January transfer window.

Despite refusing to actively discuss Kenedy’s future until Newcastle have achieved Premier League safety, Benitez is widely known to be eager to keep the winger at St James’ Park beyond the current campaign.

And the Mirror are claiming that United will have to pay up to £15m to secure his signature – nearly three times what Chelsea spent to sign the 22-year-old from Fluminense in 2015.

It may seem a heavy figure for a player who has clocked up only six appearances in black and white, but the Brazilian has made a huge impact since his arrival and his brace at the weekend added to the two assists he registered in his first two games for the club.

His contribution to Newcastle’s miraculous up-turn in form in 2018 haven’t gone unnoticed and United supporters, like Benitez, are equally keen to see Kenedy on Tyneside next term.
