Martin Dubravka admits Newcastle are ‘not in a good situation’ as the hover above the Premier League relegation zone.

Defeat to Liverpool means United are just two places and two points outside the drop zone with 9 matches left to play, starting with a crucial clash against Southampton at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Victory over the Saints would push Rafa Benitez’s side closer to safety and Dubravka wants the Magpies to battle hard for the points that will ensure survival.

“We need to find positive things,” the 29-year-old explained to the Sunderland Echo. “Of course, we lost (against Liverpool), and we’re not happy. We will only be happy if we take points. We need to look to the future and fight for every point.

“We are not in a good situation now, and we need to fight for it.”

Southampton are a place and point below Newcastle in the table and Dubravka emphasised the importance of beating the Saints and then Huddersfield at St James’ Park in three weeks.

“These two games will be very important for us,” added the Slovakia international.

“We have to be very focused and we really hope we can take three points, especially (as it’s) at home.”
