Fulham will pursue a permanent deal for Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer – provided they are promoted to the Premier League.

Mitrovic has proven himself a hit at Craven Cottage despite only signing on loan a month ago on the final day of the January transfer window and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic, a fellow Serb, is keen to retain the services of the 23-year-old beyond this season.

Rafa Benitez has no intention of keeping Mitrovic at St James’ Park in the long term and would welcome the opportunity to offload the Serbia international in order to boost his summer transfer kitty.

And the Northern Echo are reporting that Jokanovic has already decided he wants Fulham to sign Mitrovic, who has two goals in five games for the club, but is acutely aware that he must deliver top-flight football to stand any chance of affording the striker.

The west London club currently occupy a Championship play-off place and are five points clear seventh after a 12-match unbeaten run.

With two years left to run on Mitrovic’s current contract, Newcastle are expected to try and recoup the £14 million they paid to Anderlecht in 2015, and it’s understood the Belgian giants are interested in re-signing him after failing to secure him on loan in January due to a lack of finances.

Mitrovic is said to be keeping his options open with clubs from the top-tiers in France, Turkey and Greece interested in his services .
