Newcastle have been linked with a move for Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia, who is also interesting Premier League rivals Southampton.
The 27-year-old has played a pivotal role in Eibar’s meteoric rise from the lower leagues to mid-table in Spain’s top-flight and is considered to be one of the most underrated midfielders in the division.
But with his contract expiring in June, Garcia could be poised to leave the smallest club in La Liga history after six years at Ipurua, with Newcastle and the Saints keen to bring him to England this summer according to AS.
Real Betis and Levante are also reportedly interested in offering Garcia the opportunity to stay in Spain, while Athletic Bilbao – who can only sign players from the Basque region – are keeping tabs on the midfielder who was born in the Gipuzkoa province.
Renowned as a natural ball-winner, it sounds as if Rafa Benitez could hypothetically use the midfielder in a more defensive role in order to grant extra license to Jonjo Shelvey or compatriot Mikel Merino should Garcia end up at St James’ Park next season.
