Newcastle United are entering the business end of the Premier League season and have plenty of work ahead of them, as they sit just a single point above the relegation zone.

The Magpies begin a testing run of fixtures on Sunday against Manchester United, then tackling Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur over the course of the next five matches- which could increase the threat of relegation.

Some comfort can be taken in the fact that Jose Mourinho has never won at St. James’ Park during his trips to Tyneside, all of which came with previous club Chelsea, but former Newcastle striker Michael Owen expects that run to come to an end this weekend.

In his weekly predictions for BetVictor, the Magpies all-time most expensive signing said:

“Two of my former clubs go head-to-head and I feel United will take the points at a ground where they have won more away Premier League games (12) than at any other club. The Magpies are without a win in their last eight Premier League home games but, surprisingly, Jose Mourinho has never won a league game at St James’s Park in six previous attempts.”

“Paul Pogba was left out of the United side against Huddersfield at Old Trafford last weekend but I expect the Frenchman to be back in the starting XI and a winning side at the weekend.”

Defeat could move Newcastle into the drop zone, which could be crucial come the end of the campaign, and Owen is backing United for a 2-1 victory.
