Shelvey is crucial
The performance from Jonjo Shelvey was one of the stand-out things about Newcastle’s memorable victory, with the experienced midfielder winning the midfield battle and it resulted in a forgettable afternoon for both Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
Shelvey made crucial tackles throughout, put Manchester United under pressure and his distribution of the ball was superb, as shown by his excellent delivery for the Newcastle goal- which Dwight Gayle then headed down for Matt Ritchie to open his account for the season.
He’ll need to continue those performances for the remainder of the season and Shelvey is now a dark horse to make his way into England’s World Cup squad.
