Newcastle are poised to rival three fellow Premier League clubs for the signature of Marseille midfielder André Zambo Anguissa this summer.

Zambo Anguissa, who is a Cameroon international, has been heavily linked with a move to England this summer by French newspaper La Provence, with the report claiming that Watford, West Ham and West Brom, along with Newcastle, are tracking his progress.

The 22-year-old has been at the Stade Velodrome since 2015 but it is only in the last two seasons that he has become a first team regular, forming a strong understanding with Brazlian Luis Gustavo at the heart of boss Rudi Garcia’s midfield this season.

It’s unlikely that the Ligue 1 club would be receptive to selling Zambo Anguissa, especially as they’re currently third in the table and on course to qualify for the Champions League, with West Brom having a £13 million bid rejected last summer.

And whether Newcastle are willing to recruit from France, particularly Marseille, again after having their fingers burnt by a plethora of French failures, Florian Thauvin being the most prominent, is unclear.

That being said, Zambo Anguissa has been described physically imposing defensive midfielder whose specialist talents might appeal to the pragmatic Rafa Benitez.
