Newcastle United secured a vital and memorable win on Sunday afternoon, beating Manchester United 1-0 to rise out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

The result continued a woeful record for Jose Mourinho at St. James’ Park, where he’s failed to win in seven Premier League visits to Tyneside, and Newcastle thoroughly deserved their win against the high-flying giants.

From start to finish, Newcastle showed more determination, attacking intent and threat, limiting the opportunities that their opponents created and leading to a forgettable performance from the Champions League side.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles still had a busy afternoon keeping the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku quiet but his success was vital in the win- and he spoke about Manchester United’s struggles after the game.

Quoted by The Guardian, the skipper said:

“First-half, they were making a lot of mistakes, giving the ball away,”

“I think it was down to our pressing, being aggressive and on the front foot. And obviously, they didn’t like it. I could see their centre-halves on the ball, and didn’t know what to do with it. I don’t think they were at it from the start. A lot of their players were missing.”

Newcastle still have plenty of work to do in order to retain their Premier League status, as they face tough tests against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks.
