Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles believes their ‘heart and determination’ will see them claim a few more Premier League scalps before the end of the season.

The Magpies produced a battling display to take three points from second-placed Manchester United at St James’ Park earlier this month to ease their relegation anxieties and lift an entire city in the process.

Arsenal and Chelsea are still to visit Tyneside, whilst trips to Liverpool and Wembley to face Tottenham beckon for Rafa Benitez and his players before the campaign draws to a close.

But skipper Lascelles isn’t phased by facing the top flight’s supposed elite and is confident that Newcastle can upset the odds a few more times in the coming months.

“Lately we haven’t been getting what we deserve. But finally we’ve got three points against a really big team here,” Lascelles told the Chronicle.

“It’s been a good few years since we last beat Man United and we must take confidence from this. It’s massive.

“But like I say with these bigger teams they’ll have massive players on big wages.  They are world-class players but they won’t always have the same heart and determination as we have.

“I said before the game against Man United that our hard work and endeavour will get us over the line, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Newcastle face a tough test when they face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, hoping to make it back-to-back victories.
