Former Newcastle forward John Barnes has backed the Magpies to remain in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle are currently in 13th position in the table and two points above the relegation zone after beating Manchester United at St James’ Park on Sunday, but are not out of the woods yet with 11 matches remaining.

Five of those fixtures are at home with the Magpies scheduled to host three of their relegation rivals, Huddersfield, Southampton and West Brom before the end of the campaign with the visits of Arsenal and Chelsea sandwiched in between.

Winning home matches has generally been considered key to surviving in the top-flight and Barnes feels his former side are good enough to earn enough points on Tyneside to stay up.

“I think so. At home they will win enough matches,” Barnes told HITC, speaking on behalf of Bonus Bet Codes.

“They have enough quality to create chances and score goals. I’m confident they’ll survive.”

Southampton will be the next team to visit St James’ Park on 10 March with Newcastle facing trips to Bournemouth and Liverpool before they play again on their own turf.
