Newcastle United may be handed a golden goose in the January transfer market with the injection of funds following a sale.

Sky SportsĀ reportsĀ that fellow strugglers West Brom are eyeing a swoop for Newcastle’s Serbian striker Aleksander Mitrovic, who is poised to leave St. James’ Park after falling down the pecking order this season.

Newcastle are prepared to cash in on Mitrovic but would prefer not to sell to a Premier League rival, though it seems that their options are limited and they may have to seriously consider an approach from the Baggies.

However, a move for Mitrovic is reliant on whether West Brom can raise funds this week with a potential sale of Jonny Evans, who continues to be linked with a move to Premier League leaders Manchester City and top-four chasing Arsenal.

Evans’ potential exit therefore sets up a domino effect in the Premier League, which could lead to Mitrovic’s move to West Brom and Newcastle’s own movement on the market with the cash they’d earn from the sale of the 23-year-old.
