Newcastle United are hoping for a busy period during the January transfer window and outgoing deals could be crucial as Rafael Benitez’s looks to raise funds for his cash-stricken side amidst continued takeover talk.

The Magpies still have a number of players within their squad that they’re looking to get rid of this month but a decision needs to be made on whether they will control where those players are heading, as a fellow Premier League struggler are reportedly eyeing a move.

The Mirror’s live transfer blog (Sunday, 09:37) claims that Crystal Palace are interested in a deal to sign Newcastle outcast Jack Colback, who has been ousted from the first-team frame but is reluctant to move his family away from the North East.

A deal of £3m would be enough to secure the midfielder’s services but Newcastle may well prefer to sell to a Championship side, amidst reports that Ipswich Town, Wolves and Sunderland are eyeing the former Black Cats man.

The 28-year-old may be out of favour at Newcastle but he is still a decent player, which means approving a sale to relegation rivals Crystal Palace could come back to haunt the Magpies.
