Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez faces some crucial decisions heading into the final few days of the January transfer window, with a number of potential deals involving the Magpies potentially taking place.

The Spaniard is focused on his incoming business, with the only acquisition so far being the capture of Kenedy on-loan from Chelsea, but some of his attention may be taken by a Premier League side, with reports stating a fresh offer for a Newcastle man could be made.

The Argus reports that Newcastle’s relegation rivals Brighton are preparing an improved bid for Serbian striker Aleksander Mitrovic, after seeing an initial offer of £8m rejected by the Tyneside giants.

23-year-old Mitrovic has been linked with an exit throughout the mid-season window, after becoming frustrated with a lack of opportunities, and a departure is likely to be approved once Newcastle finalise a deal for a new forward- as the Magpies push towards the signature of Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen.

However, Benitez is determined not to strengthen his relegation rivals with January business, having ruled out the sale of Jonjo Shelvey to West Ham, and that reduces the likelihood of Brighton being able to secure a deal- especially as the Magpies want around £15m for his signature.
