Newcastle are preparing for a dramatic end to the January transfer window, as Rafael Benitez looks to conclude deals in key areas.

The Spaniard’s priority in the remaining few days is to land a new goalkeeper and a new striker, with the Magpies scoring just 22 goals in 23 matches this season, and Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen has emerged as the prime target.

Negotiations have rumbled on for the past week and The Chronicle states Newcastle have seen two bids for the 27-year-old rejected, with the Magpies now poised to make a third and final offer before potentially turning their attention elsewhere.

Newcastle will have to part with a club-record fee to bring Jorgensen to the Premier League and Feyenoord coach Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has stated a deal could still go ahead, despite the striker featuring in this weekend’s 3-1 Eredivisie victory.

“I do not know what my feeling is, I have no feeling, I’m just waiting, I can not do more. I talk to Nico on daily basis and Nico has shown how important he is to this team today.”

“We know how things stand and we’ll have to wait and see how the coming days will go.”
