Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is desperate to improve his squad ahead of a battle to avoid an immediate return to the Championship and he’s keen to bolster his defensive ranks.
The Magpies have struggled for stability since returning to the top-flight this season and Benitez is set for a busy transfer window as he seeks the deals that can help his side secure safety- and a surprise link is being reported.
According to TalkSport presenter Geoff Peters, Newcastle are in negotiations with fellow strugglers Crystal Palace regarding a loan deal for Senegalese international Pape Souare- who’d bolster the Hammers at left-back.
The left-side of Newcastle’s defence has been a problem area this season due to continued injury issues and the arrival of Souare would provide a huge boost- and crucially it’s stated that all three parties are keen on securing a January deal.
Souare has recently battled back from serious injury sustained in a car crash in September 2016 but has found himself down in the pecking order at Selhurst Park- although Jeffrey Schlupp’s recent injury could throw a spanner into the works for Newcastle.
