Newcastle United are poised to complete the first of what the club will hope will be many of their deals in the January transfer window, as the club edge towards the signing of a Premier League attacker.

The Chronicle reports that Newcastle are on the verge of signing Chelsea winger Kenedy on-loan until the end of the season, as the Magpies look to secure their Premier League status and avoid an immediate return to the second-tier.

Newcastle have held long-term interest in the Brazilian talent, first raising their interest last summer, but the defending Premier League champions were reluctant to allow the South American move due to a lack of depth within Antonio Conte’s squad.

Conte has maintained that players will not leave Stamford Bridge this month unless replacements are secured but, having landed Ross Barkley from Everton in a £15m deal last week, it appears that Kenedy is poised for a move.

This is unlikely to be Newcastle’s only venture into the January market as the Magpies are desperate to tie up a deal for an experienced goalkeeper, whilst they’re also seeking recruits to bolster their misfiring attacking lines.
