Newcastle United are set for a very busy end to the January transfer window as Rafael Benitez looks to rejuvenate his squad with fresh additions and the offloading of those surplus to requirements.

The Magpies are yet to complete a deal this month but that seems likely to change imminently, with French outlet L’Equipe stating that Montpellier are in advanced talks to land Henri Saivet on-loan from the Tyneside outfit.

27-year-old Saivet is surplus to requirements in the North East and is likely to leave, with a deal this month set to include a purchase offer that makes a deal permanently in the summer- likely to be around the €5m mark.

Saivet spent time last season on-loan with St. Etienne, though that deal didn’t include a clause for the permanent transfer, and he’s made just three appearances this season and has accumulated just 84 minutes of Premier League football.

An exit will free wages for Newcastle to pursue further signings but their transfer budget won’t be bolstered until the summer.
