Newcastle United seem to be stuck in a rut in their return to the Premier League, with the Magpies struggling to find consistency in the top-flight and yet to make movement on the transfer market.

What is particularly concerning is that The Chronicle reports that Rafael Benitez is still unaware of what his transfer budget for the mid-season window is, despite consistent pleas to the club’s hierarchy as he seeks to improve the squad.

Takeover talks continue to rumble on behind the scenes, which is clearly affecting the club’s operations in the January market, but we’re now a third of the way through January without any suggestions of an imminent deal for Newcastle.

Benitez is desperate to complete his transfer activity by January 20th, giving him additional time to work with new players and settle them into the squad, but we’re now just days away from that deadline- and it seems likely it will be missed.

Newcastle have so far made a number of enquiries in the transfer market, and are pushing for loan deals, but there’s no end in sight for any signing.
