Newcastle United seem to have run out of luck, with the latest disappointing news being that discussions between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley regarding a takeover have broken down.

That leaves the Magpies in a difficult position, not least because they sit just three points above the relegation zone, but a positive is that Ashley needs to hand Rafael Benitez funds in January if he’s to ensure the value of Newcastle doesn’t drop.

If relegation were to happen, Newcastle’s value would certainly plummet and Ashley, from a personal perspective, cannot afford to let that happen- which means that he’ll have to front money to Benitez this month.

Interestingly, there’s a chance of a brilliant deal. Arsenal seem to be going for broke due to the imminent departure of Alexis Sanchez and their interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could in turn hand a boost for Newcastle.

Should Aubameyang arrive, then Olivier Giroud would surely be unhappy with his standing in North London, particularly in a World Cup year, and could then seek a transfer of his own- and Newcastle should make a move.

Signing Giroud would is only likely to be on-loan, due to the cost of a permanent transfer, but his vast experience at the top level would provide a massive boost to a Newcastle front-line that has scored just 20 goals in 22 Premier League matches this term.

Not only is Giroud capable of getting goals, he’s also superb at putting opportunities on a plate for his team-mates; which would work well for Newcastle, providing key chances for the likes of Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu.

Just as importantly, it would also send a huge message of intent to Newcastle’s relegation rivals near the foot of the Premier League- showing that the Magpies are here to stay and making a clash on Tyneside a difficult prospect to face.
