Newcastle United’s future has taken another twist with the latest reports emerging regarding a potential takeover of the club, with talks set to rumble on.

Mike Ashley has been unsuccessful in his attempts to complete a sale of the Premier League this season and it emerged earlier this week that talks between the Sports Direct magnate and Amanda Staveley, the leading candidate to purchase the club, had broken down.

Staveley had previously bid £250m to buy the Tyneside outfit but saw that offer rejected and now it seems PCP may be out of the running all together, as The Guardian reports that a major investor in that offer has pulled out.

According to the report, the Reuben family had been named by Staveley’s representatives as amongst the investors involved in the bid for Newcastle but they have since pulled out following Ashley’s rejection of the offer.

A comment from the Reuben family’s spokesperson said:

“It is true that we did have a look at it, but nothing actually happened. We are not investing in Newcastle United either as Reuben Brothers or as any individuals, including Jamie.”

That leads to suggestions that Staveley is now having issues financing a deal, following a breakdown in talks earlier this week.
