midfielder Mikel Merino says he is eyeing victory in next two homes after what has been a poor run of form for Rafael Benitez’s side.

have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, their most recent defeat being a 3-1 loss to at Stamford Bridge.

However with back-to-back fixtures at St James Park against City and coming up, Merino believes can reinvigorate their season.

“Playing at home is always an advantage for us,” said the midfielder. “The strength of the crowd’s important, and I think with all the strength they give us, we’ll improve.

“We know we have to keep working like this. We have to be patient and confident in our possibilities.”
