Newcastle midfielder Mikel Merino says he is eyeing victory in the Magpies next two homes after what has been a poor run of form for Rafael Benitez’s side.

The Magpies have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, their most recent defeat being a 3-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However with back-to-back fixtures at St James Park against Leicester City and Everton coming up, Merino believes the Magpies can reinvigorate their season.

“Playing at home is always an advantage for us,” said the midfielder. “The strength of the crowd’s important, and I think with all the strength they give us, we’ll improve.

“We know we have to keep working like this. We have to be patient and confident in our possibilities.”

Newcastle currently sit 15th in the Premier League table after having slipped from as high as fourth place, only five points off the bottom three.
