Rafael Benitez has warned his Newcastle players they must ‘cut out errors’ if they are to re-find their form from earlier in the season.

The Magpies were as high as fourth in the Premier League in mid-October after a solid start to the new campaign, however after a dismal six weeks now find themselves 16th and only one point of the relegation zones.

Last night’s 1-0 defeat to Everton was their seventh loss in eight top flight games, making them the England and even Europe’s worst performers over the past two months, and Benitez has slammed individual errors for their poor run of form.

“We have individual errors that are costing us points,” Benitez told reporters.

“We have changed the team, the shape and players – and still we are losing so we have to take responsibility, starting with me and that’s it.”

Benitez said Newcastle must now turn its attention to the weekend’s trip to Arsenal.

“The only thing you can take as a positive is our approach in the game and the performance of the players in the first half,” Benitez added.

“It’s difficult to accept and understand. We have to make sure the players aren’t down for too long because we must get ready for the next game.”
