Newcastle United will face competition from none other than Barcelona to sign Chelsea outcast David Luiz after the New Year, reports Football London.
The Magpies emerged as shock contenders for the signature of the Brazilian in recent days, with manager Rafael Benitez reportedly keen on a re-union with the defender having worked with him during his time with Chelsea in 2014/15.
Luiz, who re-signed for the Blues in the summer of 2016 after a brief spell at PSG, has struggled for game time this season at Stamford Bridge after suffering from injury.
During his spell on the sidelines, he is thought to have fallen out of favour with boss Antonio Conte, who could now let the Brazilian leave London in January either on-loan or permanently.
Barcelona are the latest club to state their interest in Luiz – a player of whom they have been a long term admirer – with the departure of veteran star Javier Mascherano at the end of the season leaving the Catalan club in search of a replacement.
