Newcastle United face a crucial week ahead in their battle to secure their Premier League status, with back-to-back home matches against Leicester City and Everton.

The Magpies have secured just one point from the last 18 available and have slumped to fifteenth in the table as a result, now sitting just five points above the relegation zone.

That has increased the pressure upon Rafael Benitez’s side but, despite an upturn in form, Leicester City boss Claude Peul is wary of the threat Newcastle pose- stating he has a lot of respect for the club and their Spanish manager.

Quoted by The Shields Gazette ahead of this weekend’s meeting, the former Southampton manager said:

“We have a lot of respect for Newcastle. They are a good team and have a great manager with quality on the team. They know themselves very well, because they play together in the Championship.”

“They had a good start to the season, and they have good structure, good play and strong on the counter-attack. We need to keep a good concentration and focus on this team.”

“It will be a difficult atmosphere, because there will be 50,000 people cheering them on. It’s another good challenge. It’s important to play a good game.”

Leicester, like Newcastle, had endured struggles this season but have turned things around by securing back-to-back Premier League wins.
