Newcastle United are entering a crucial period in their season, where Rafael Benitez’s side are under pressure following a poor run of results in recent months.

The Magpies sit just two points above the relegation zone after enduring six defeats from their last seven Premier League outings and takeover talks continue to rumble on behind the scenes, leading to a period of uncertainty for the Tyneside giants.

January is therefore a crucial month for Newcastle as they look to improve the squad but the likelihood is that Mike Ashley will restrict the spending in the New Year, as he intends to complete a sale as soon as possible.

Due to that, it has been reported that Newcastle will raise funds by offloading players within their squad but Benitez doesn’t seem keen on the idea, telling The Chronicle he doesn’t intend to sell anyone at this current moment.

“At the moment we aren’t thinking about selling anybody because we need our players. I don’t know how much money will be available or what we will do.”

“We have to be sure that this group of players continue to work as hard as they are doing at the moment. If we can bring in some positions or some help, we will do it. But to do that, sometimes you don’t need to sell players to be sure you can attract the others.”

The likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle are amongst the high-profile names linked with a January exit and a sale of either forward would significantly bolster the transfer kitty.
