Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has been given permission to leave the club this January amidst interest from Newcastle United, reports Sports Witness.

The Magpies had lodged multiple bids in the summer for the Spanish shot-stopper, however such offers were rebuffed by Madrid.

However, with Los Blancos reportedly closing on the purchase of Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa, Casilla could now be allowed to leave after the New Year.

The 31-year-old keeper came through the youth academy at the Bernabeu before moving to Espanyol in 2007. In 2015 he was brought back to his former club, however has since made only 36 appearances in two-and-a-half years in Madrid.

In further good news for Newcastle, Madrid could even allow Casillla to leave on a free transfer.

Manager Rafael Benitez was the one to have bought Casilla back to Madrid, and is believed to be a big fan as he looks to find himself a new number one at St James’ Park after selling Tim Krul to Brighton during the summer.
