Newcastle United have seen themselves plummet down the Premier League standings after a poor run of form, leaving them just two points and two positions above the relegation zone.
Rafael Benitez’s side now stand under immense pressure and crucial games lie ahead of the Magpies, with the importance of tomorrow night’s hosting of Everton raise significantly after a 3-2 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.
These back-to-back home games were crucial for Newcastle and, having failed to take anything from the clash against the Foxes, will need to secure a result against Everton- although that may be a stretch too far for Benitez’s under performing side.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson certainly believes a victory is too much for Newcastle but does predict an upturn in form, predicting a draw between the two sides in his weekly predictions.
“Newcastle are in a bad way, losing six out of the last seven. This will be a draw, and I expect Everton to sit back a bit. Newcastle really have to go for it, but they will leave themselves open at the back like they did against Leicester, but Everton are nowhere near as good on the counter as Leicester. I cannot separate these two.”
