Newcastle United have been struggling in the Premier League this season, losing eight of their last nine fixtures and slipping into the relegation zone as a result.

Taking just one point from the last 28 available, the Magpies face real issues and stern challenges lie ahead, particularly in a period of uncertainty that remains as takeover talks continue to rumble on- with no indication as to when a conclusion will be reached.

As such, there have been plenty of critics of the club and BBC pundit Garth Crooks has given a frank assessment on the club’s situation- stating that the Magpies are simply punching above their weight.

Speaking to the BBC, Crooks said:

“The reality is the Magpies are punching above their weight and are slowly running out of gas. I dread to think how this squad is going to cope over the Christmas period. The games are coming thick and fast now.”

“Players are going to have to play with knocks and bruises and put their bodies on the line for their clubs and team-mates. For all of Arsenal’s possession and intricate play, Newcastle fought bravely. And with better finishing, they could have come away with a point.”
