Newcastle United face a stern test in January as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of the remainder of the Premier League season, where the Magpies are fighting to avoid relegation.

Rafael Benitez’s side have endured a woeful run of form that has seen them suffer eight defeats in their last nine matches, including four consecutive losses, and he’s keen to rejuvenate his forward line when the transfer market reopens.

With takeover talks ongoing though, there is still a period of uncertainty regarding the future of the club and the funds that the experienced Spanish boss will have at his disposal in the New Year- which means that players may need to be sold.

One of those most likely to leave is Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has struggled to get game time this season, but the 23-year-old may return in the Premier League as rival clubs are eueing his signature.

The Daily MailĀ states that fellow strugglers West Brom are eyeing a move for the World Cup hopeful, with former Magpies manager Alan Pardew keen to make raid his old employers.

The Baggies are struggling or goals but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle would approve a move that would directly strengthen a relegation rival, which would certainly lead to huge concerns about their transfer activity.
