Newcastle United will face competition from West Bromwich Albion this January to to secure the services of Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

Ings, who has had an injury-full spell with the Reds since his 2015 move from Burnley, is reportedly free to leave the club after the New Year with Jurgen Klopp deeming the striker surplus to requirements.

Liverpool currently have Roberto Firmino, Dominic Solanke and Daniel Sturridge above Ings in the pecking order at Anfield, meaning game time has been and will continue to be limited for the former England international.

While Newcastle were favourites to sign him – most likely on a loan-deal – West Brom have now entered the fray for his signature, with new boss Alan Pardew believed to be keen on the ex-Clarets star.

The Baggies have had a difficult start to the season, and Pardew believes Ings could be the man to fire his side to safety.

Ings, 25, has been limited to only 12 appearances for Liverpool in two-and-a-half seasons through injury.
