Newcastle United continue to be linked with the services of veteran Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, with fresh reports stating the Magpies are the club ‘most likely’ to sign the stopper from Porto.

Sport Witness provides an update on the situation, where they report that outlets in both Portugal and Spain continue to push the legendary Spanish goalkeeper with a move to St. James’ Park- where he’d reunite with Rafael Benitez, having spent time working under the manager during their time at Real Madrid.

Newcastle are known to be seeking improvements to their goalkeeping options in January but there has been no direct approach from the Tyneside giants and it remains to be seen whether their interest in genuine.

Casillas wouldn’t provide a long-term fix but that may not be necessary given the development of Freddie Woodman, who won the U20 World Cup in the summer with England and is reportedly to be sent on-loan in January.
