Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson has said he believes Newcastle United are ‘in a bad way’ but expects the Magpies to pick up a result against Everton tomorrow night.
The Magpies have lost six of their last seven top flight games, seeing them drop from as high as fourth in the Premier League to 16th and only two points above the relegation zone.
After their most recent defeat – a 3-2 loss to Claude Puel’s resurgent Leicester City – Merson says he fears for Rafael Benitez’s side, but does back them to get something against fellow strugglers Everton during the week.
“Newcastle are in a bad way, losing six out of the last seven.” said Merson.
“This will be a draw, and I expect Everton to sit back a bit.
“Newcastle really have to go for it, but they will leave themselves open at the back like they did against Leicester, but Everton are nowhere near as good on the counter as Leicester.
“I cannot separate these two.
